In 2014, the middle infield was set by what we saw as a great dynamic duo in Yunel Escobar manning the
shortstop position and Ben “Zorilla” Zobrist manning second base.
During the offseason, many changes were made from top to bottom in the organization as a whole. One
change Matt Silverman, new general manager of the Rays, made was actually trade the middle infield
every day guys (Yunel Escobar to the Nationals and Ben Zobrist to the Oakland A’s).
Silverman then went out and signed Middle Infielder, Asdrubal Cabrera to a one year $7.5 million
contract. Nick Franklin, a player acquired in the David Price deal got some time to play in AAA Durham
and some Majors action in September, is seen as the next probable middle infielder. The third candidate
for the vacant spots is Tim Beckham, a former #1 pick. Beckham has had his issues in the minors but it
looks like he’s seriously on the right track and ready to give it a go and become an everyday big league
player for the Rays.
Logan Forsythe isn't seen as much of a threat to the three listed just because he will be used more in my
eyes in a super utility role to back up Longoria and Loney as well as man second base in late game
I believe that Cabrera will go back to being the every day shortstop for this upcoming 2015 season and
Franklin will be our 2nd baseman. I am really excited to see all the changes that have occurred
throughout our team and excited for what is in store this season!

I am an avid sports fan, and my favorite sport of all is baseball. Baseball is my true love and passion. The rays have become my favorite team for the dedications the organization has to become successful. All the players and coaches and executives of the organization are people I look up to and someday I hope to become a MLB general manager for any of the 30 teams. I hope everyone that reads my blog enjoys what's on it and if there are any questions, comments or concerns. Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
