The 2012-2013 Major League Baseball offseason has definitely been one that may be
good to remember. An offseason that has been much underrated for all we know.
Josh Hamilton, former Devil Ray, and Zack Greinke went both to a team in Los
The Rays kicked off their offseason by exercising their options on P James Shields, Fernando Rodney
and C Jose Molina. Also they declined their option on Luke Scott. 3B Evan
Longoria’s contract became a 10 year $136.6 million contract as well.
On November 28, 2012, it was reported that the Atlanta Braves signed OF B.J. Upton to a 5
year worth $75.25 million dollars.
The week of December 4-7 2012, the Rays acquired SS Yunel Escobar and signed 1B James
Later on, the Tampa Bay Rays on December 10, 2012 made a trade that many said may happen
and some said will not happen. James Shields, Wade Davis got traded to Kansas
City for top prospect Wil Myers and 3 more above average minor leaguers. This
trade has given a brighter future for the organization in my opinion. It gives
the Rays a replacement for the loss of B.J. Upton even though the Rays have to
give Myers several months to develop more into what the Rays would like him to
The latest move they have made was signed P Roberto Hernandez (aka Fausto Carmona) to a one
year contract. Word is that he will be in the Rays bullpen.
A special farewell to Jeff Keppinger (signed with White Sox), Carlos Pena (signed with
Astros), J.P. Howell (signed with Dodgers), and last but not least B.J. Upton
(signed with Braves).
The Rays Offseason has had more transactions than any of us have expected and I can say
that for sure. I give them a B+ just because they need one more bat and another
arm for the bullpen. The Rays spent $11,250,000 according to ESPN’s MLB Hot
Stove. None the less, the Rays are still in my eyes a top team in the division
and better said the league. Having another season like we did last season but
having everyone healthy will definitely have us as a championship contender.
Let’s all hope for the best for the organization we all have come to love, the
Tampa Bay Rays.

I am an avid sports fan, and my favorite sport of all is baseball. Baseball is my true love and passion. The rays have become my favorite team for the dedications the organization has to become successful. All the players and coaches and executives of the organization are people I look up to and someday I hope to become a MLB general manager for any of the 30 teams. I hope everyone that reads my blog enjoys what's on it and if there are any questions, comments or concerns. Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
